Apple iPhone 4S wifi errors

Do you recognize the following problem?

You have upgraded your Apple iPhone 4S to iOS 7 and now you find your Wifi is greyed out.

Please check the following:
  • Your phone affected is the Apple iPhone 4S ?
  • Your problems occured after the upgrade to iOS7 ?
  • The issue you are now experiencing is a greyed out WiFI button, which was not greyed out before ?
  • You have (to the best of your ability, and within reason) tried all options advised by Apple to resolve this issue ?
  • You find you are unable to resolve this problem yourself ?
  • Your iPhone 4S  was operating without any noticable problems prior to the upgrade to iOS7 ?
  • You feel Apple needs to come up with an acceptable solution for this issue

If all the above is applies to you please read on:

Dear everyone,

First of all, just like you I am experiencing this problem and it is very frustrating!

I like to draw your attention to the following discussions on the Apple discussion website:

Upgrade to iOS7 most likely cause of an overheated wifichip. Resulting in a defective iPhone 4S

After the upgrade to iOS7 hundreds and mostlikely many thousands of Apple iPhone 4S users are experiencing serious problems resulting in an overheated WiFi chip with as result a greyed out WiFi button in the settings screen.

This results in lost WiFi communication and -because both the WiFi and Bluetooth are integrated in the same chip-  in lost or severely deteriorated Bluetooth communications.
The serious overheating of this WiFi chip on the mainboard results in an unusable iPhone 4S.  (Unfortunately I have hands-on experience myself)

According to Apple the WiFi chip was "most likely already broken" before the upgrade took place and the customer just was not aware of this. And it is just 'coincidence' that now after the upgrade to iOS7 the phone's WiFi and Bluetooth completely stopped working.

As you can see from the below threads desperate Apple iPhone 4S customers are trying out every possible way up to even using fridges and hairdryers to get their phones working !

Up to now Apple in no way is supporting these thousands? of users affected and even states  (like in my case) that the upgrade to iOS 7 was fully 'at your own risk
(quote 'sir, it says so in the small print in the legal statement during the upgrade procedure' unquote)

History of the WiFi problem
This problem not only occurs now with iOS 7 but also occurred last year with the introduction of iOS 6.

Doug Aamoth of TIME Magazine wrote an article on June 3, 2013 on his identical problems:
At that time however most iPhone 4S customers could still claim warranty since iOS 6 was introduced shortly after the iPhone 4S. This kept this issue less relevant and thus drew less anger and frustration.

Practically all iPhone4s users now find they're (just a few months) out of warranty.
With the iPhone 5 introduced in September 2012 and now iOS 7 introduced in September 2013.

The result is that our iPhones 4s phones -in quite a few cases only just over a year old-  are now without working WiFi, Bluetooth and oftern with a degenerated Battery life of in most cases only a few hours. This all makes our iPhones completely unusable

I would like to bring this under your attention since Apple is -as you see in these discussions- not giving any support or comment on these cases.
Their line: 'sheer coincidence', as you can read from the communication between the owners of broken iPhone4s phones and Apple support employees.

For me, an affected user, with a now worthless iPhone, it feels very wrong when a company like Apple brings out a new faulty firmware iOS 7- which obviously does not work together well with a 'shaky' wifi chip- states it is meant for the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, 5C and 5S  and then shoves the responsibility on their customers by saying: you upgraded at your own risk.

As you can understand I am very frustrated in the support Apple is giving her customers.
Even more so knowing Apple made over $ 6 billion profit in just the third quarter of 2013.

If you have any further questions, please feel free in contacting me.

Very best regards,

Bin Kroon

or just do a google search on " iphone 4s wifi greyed out

below is an excerpt of one of my articles on this issue on the apple discussions pages:

Let me sum up my observations in these discussions here on the Apple Discussion pages:

Everyone having a problem in these discussions have the following problem:
  • All phone affected are IPhone 4s
  • All problems occured after the upgrade to iOS7
  • The issue we are experiencing is a greyed out WiFI button, which was not greyed out before.
  • We have tried all options advised by Apple to resolve this issue.
  • We are all unable to solve this problem ourselves constructively, although some of us have managed adhoc 'fixes' like hairdryers or using the fridge to 'cool off' the wifi chip.
  • Our iPhone 4s's  were operating without any noticable problems prior to the upgrade to iOS7
The above makes me to draw the following conclusion:
There is a clear pattern and these are obviously not individual cases. It appears the wifi chip of the iPhone 4s is being of a substandard quality and not being not fully compatible with the new iOS firmware which causes this problem. Also most of the beta testing over the past months was done using the iPhone 5 and not the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s. Most likely because the 4 series were not part of the large scale testing Apple was not fully aware of this accelerated issue with the Wifi chip (when you do a Google search on "iPhone greyed out wifi" you see that this issue is not new, and you see the issue involves mostly the 4s ) But it seems iOS 7 pushed these weak and thus unreliable wifi chips just over the edge, causing them to overheat and thus to stop functioning alltogether.
Apple must be fully aware of this issue by now but they are incredibly silent in communicating with their in my estimation  'multiple thousands' of customers worldwide experiencing this problem. Apple only sticks by claiming the upgrade to iOS7 is "at your own risk" (that's what I was told) and sticking to the warranty period
(I bought my iPhone in Aug 2012, so am out of Apple warranty)

For the iPhone 4S, Apple seems to have used a faulty WiFi chip which in some cases seems not to be able to handle the load of the iOS. This can lead to overheating issues which can eventually cause a hardware failure

  • As customers in good faith we bought this product
  • We paid a large amount of money  (I paid some $800 last year) since we believed we bought a quality product in the believe we could use it -with good care of course- for at least 2, 3 or even 4 years to come
  • We upgraded the firmware from iOS 5 or 6 to iOS 7 since Apple advised us to do so (as is very obvious from the constant messages in the settings menu of the iPhone and in iTunes)
  • We followed all the regular procedures as advised by Apple in the upgrade
  • There is no way how Apple could hold us responsible for having done a 'wrong' installation, making us responsible for our own actions.
  • Apple has been aware for over a year the Apple 4S WiFi chip is not reliable (A Google search on iPhone 4S Wifi greyed out will proof my point) and was therefor fully aware this "greyed out" problem - which also occurred when iOS 6 was introduced, might very likely occur again with the introduction of iOS 7.
  • Since Apple did not inform her customers of this risk the customers were not given the choice to either upgrade (knowing the risks) or staying with the previous (working) version.
  • Apple does not enable the users to return to the previous version of iOS, and even if Apple would allow the users to return to a previous version, there is a great risk the hardware has become seriously damaged already in the upgrade to iOS 7, making this not a feasible option.
As result of this us, we, customers are now stuck with an unusable iPhone for which we paid plenty of money and so support from Apple whatsoever in solving this issue.

I feel that Apple should take their responsibility and help her customers in solving this quality issue.
( One thing I am sure of, if Apple would be a car manufacturer or an airplane manufacturer they would never get away with this, and would be forced to do a recall)

My message to Apple:

You know thousands of your customers are affected by this fault. It is now time to act. Taking responsibility never hurts (even if you for some reason feel you are not fully to blame) It gives you credit. And credit gives you loyal customers.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG:
I want to ask all Apple iPhone 4S users experiencing this problem to sign this petition in which we ask Apple to resolve this matter in an acceptable manner.

Please feel free to respond, to comment, forward, or 'like' this page. Thank you!

I will try and keep you all informed to the best of my ability.

Best regards,
Bin Kroon,
The Netherlands

  5. After updating to iOS7 my iphone 4s also quit being able to connect to wifi and has the greyed out selector for wifi. I am also having difficulties when connecting to my microcell and only get calls and texts when I am outside the range of it. Apple told me that it was a hardware issue and not software. My argument is that I had absolutely no problems before doing the update ... not one ... the phone was perfect. Now I am stuck with a basic cell phone that allows calls and texts every now and then. The software update has undoubtable caused my issues.

  15. I am one of Apple's victims also. I have an iPhone 4S, upgraded to iOS 7 and my WiFi quit working. I went to an Apple store, talked to a tech, and Apple told me it would be $200 American dollars (I'm in Texas) to fix my phone. So I went home, put it in the fridge for ten minutes and the WiFi was fixed for free. It was the temperature change that re-started the WiFi chip, so the issue is software that overheats the chip. Really Apple? Take responsibility for ruining our phones already.

  16. Hi,
Same problem here. Apple and my service provider do not want to take ownership.

For those in the UK, I suggest writing to the legal director, here:-
Apple Europe Limited, Legal Dept. 2 Furzeground Way Stockley Park East Uxbridge, UB11 1BB United Kingdom.
Also, you can take this up with the Telecoms Ombudsman (if your service provider subscribes to this). You can complain on-line here http://www.ombudsman-services.org/

We need major web tech sites to start listening and take notice, only then will Apple take notice!

Apple needs to take better care of its customers.

I posted my experience on one of the longer topic threads on the Apple Discussion board. The fact that this is all labeled as "just a coincidence" is really irritating. I hope my husbands 4S doesn't croak, or if it does, it needs to do it within the next three days while it's still under AppleCare.

  43. Hi to everyone and thank you for starting this blog.
I have the same issue and am unfortunately away from the UK for several months and would have to post my phone back to the UK to have it repaired.
Apple have said they will do the repair for free, but only in the UK, not in Australia where I am now.
My phone is a 4S and no longer under warranty, but the offer to fix it for free says to me that they know this is an issue.
I have had 4 or 5 online chats with support and they deny that it is a software issue.
I have a screen grab of a chat I had with customer support in which they deny a software update can be responsible for the issues and they also say forum posts about issues such as this should be taken with a 'grain of salt'.
Bin Kroon I'd like to send you the grabs if possible.

    Thanks for starting this blog.

  45. UPDATE: Hi guys, I recently visited an apple store located at Burlington, MA and they denied to get it fixed. They gave me the same stupid reasons and it was very frustrating to hear. They pretended like they weren't even aware of such an issue and offered to fix it with a fee of $199. The staff was very unhelpful and arrogant. Please avoid visiting this store at all cost.
I wasn't prepared to give up so I again took my handset to another Apple store located at Peabody, MA. The staff here were so helpful and polite in treating their customers. They never asked me another question and immediately replaced my handset with a new one free of charge! I think there's a lot of communication gap between different stores. I think we need to take that extra effort to educate them :)

  46. My 18 month old iphone 4S also got the greyed out wifi with the ios 6 version. In Europe we have 2 years warranty. But after 6 months, the customer has to prove that it is a factory mistake that already existed at the time when you bought it. I explained technically about the bad leadfree solder that easily cracks due to the heat after running with ios 6 or 7. The wifi bluetooth design is not good with this update. The Belgium Mobistar bastards just do not accept such explanation and are refusing the warranty. When I pay 309€, I will get a fixed one... There should be a lawyer who can prove to apple that it is clearly a factory mistake, and the court should force apple or the (Mobistar) shop to fix such this warranty problem. When you think about it, when apple wants to sell their newest iphones, they can make your old one crash by a new update that overheats a component in your iphone... and the customer cannot prove that this problem was there all the time. I was an apple fan, it makes me thinking twice for my next iphone.

  47. Hi Im from the UK. With a 4s less than a year old. My wifi has also fried it's self one week ago. I called our local Apple store who could only point me to visiting a larger phone selling store with a genius bar. I am absolutely hopping. I want Apple to know how frustrating this is - one day a perfectly usable phone the next day my little world has ended - no more hands free in the car, no more whatsapp so I cannot connect to my son in Australia. No snapchats just for fun. No updates on my apps and no more drop box collecting my photos as well as emails, etc etc etc I live in a remote area so most of my texts send via wifi - not any more.
I have been a great beleiver in Apple products tapping away on an Apple laptop, with an Imac upstairs - they have always been so helpful before why are they not issuing a recall for all folks with a wifi problem. They could fix the old phones and sell them cheap - keeping the customers happy who paid dearly for that product.
I have written to the Apple complaints but heard nothing back yet. I guess I will have to visit a store soon, when I have time off - so frustrating that I have to do this when I shouldn't have to.

  54. Hi guys - thanks Bin Kroon for starting this blog. I am having this issue as well and have done everything suggested to me by Apple except pay them more money to fix the problem. The issue persists and unfortunately Apple has made it impossible for me to downgrade my device to the previous OS that was working just fine.

While Apple continues to claim that this is solely a hardware issue - I think that it is apparent to us that this issue is (in whole or in part) caused by the iOS7 firmware upgrade. I think that we need to gather presentable evidence and documentation of this problem while things are still fresh.

As in - if there are other 4S users out there who have not yet upgraded who are considering upgrading or who are willing to potentially sacrifice a phone - it would be worth while to document the upgrade process. I am not sure how something like this could be organized other than spreading the word.

Also - if you live in the United States - it may be worth considering filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at the following link.

  56. Same problem as everyone else. Not sure that their "warranty" stance holds though as in UK law a product should have a "reasonable life" which is way beyond Apple's warranty period. Might be worth contacting the local Office of Fair Trading.

  58. Same problem again!! My wife's phone just out of Warranty. Vodafone want £150 to fix it or suggested I take out an extended warranty with Apple and get it fixed. I pointed out Apple are hardly likely to see an extended warranty against a product that is already defective. Vodafone said Apple will definitely sell me a warranty but checked on the Apple website and it states they will check product is fully functional before selling a warranty, Next phone will not be an iPhone and will not be with Vodafone!

  60. A Wifi button just greyed out and never came back. A few days ago i had a trip, and in one place there was no radio coverage for about 20 minutes. After that I have noticed that my wifi is working again. Its already 4-5 days, and i don't have any more issues with a wifi, plus my battery is working much better now (I could say twice better).
How to fix WiFi grayed out in iPhone 4S

    Maybe this will help someone.

    http://wh.gov/lKjFd

Here's some more information about this petition:

Apple should replace all broken iphone4s for free due to update of iOS7 which destroys wifi chip.

Apple refuses to investigate and give a clear answer on this in public. They tried to ignore all evidences or analysis which shows it is a problem caused by its software. They blamed this problem to customer's defective hardware without evidence. It is obvious against the law. We need US government's attention!!!!

  62. I am on my third iPhone this month! Had my original white iPhone 4S 16GB since January 2013. After updating to iOS 7 my wifi went dodgy and eventually completely greyed out.
I went to the Genius Bar at the beginning of November and the replaced my phone as still in warrenty. This phone worked for about two and half weeks before the same problem occured. I went to the Genius Bar again on Friday and again the phone was replaced. The wifi lasted 24 hours before greying out AGAIN.
I spoke to Apple on the phone and they are now sending me an iPhone 5s. Fingers crossed that this actually works. I have been so frustrated by this and as well as doing numerous network re-sets, full restores, soft re-sets and putting the phone in the freezer - nothing has worked!!
This is a problem that is clearly not going away. I am lucky I am in warranty otherwise I would be pulling my hair out.

  64. I had same problem , was one month out of warranty and Apple wont replace it .. I am never buying Apple products again and I am also letting my other collegues and friends advise against Apple products in future . I paid the premium cost thinking I am getting a better product , however Apple has shamed as a US company and also Shamed by not able to provide any working solution for consumers.

  65. Hi, I am also having the same problem. My i4s is just over a year old. Updated to 7.0.4 via iTunes and Wi-Fi greyed out. I tried all suggested option on the apple discussion but nothing worked. The only way how to get my wifi working was last trick - freezer. And it worked but not for long. This assured me that there must be something wrong with overheating. My phone is now useless. I can't use FaceTime to get connected with my family back abroad, I can't use Skype as it is dropping, no Viber, no WhatsApp, no satnav, nothing. I am going to Apple store in UK but I am not hoping for much. Great xmas present from Apple. I am now waiting till Jan for upgrade on the phone and deciding between Apple 5s and Samsung. Like mentioned above it seems to me that they decide to run the iOS 7 on iphone 4 & 4S to get them ruined so people get new iPhone 5. New way of making money.
I signed the petition and will contact the ombudsman and also BBC Watchdog about this.
    Merry xmas to everyone!

  66. Hi all, same issue with my iphone 4S (right near the end of 12 months from purchase date). I took it to the Genius Bar today and they gave me the same lecture of getting it replaced for a "discounted" price of $199 -- please.. Apple this is an issue that YOU need to address. Stop trying to steal money from customers for part failures that you need to own up to as a Company. Admit this is a problem and fix it.

  67. My 4s was still under warranty, barely, so they gave me a free 4s replacement phone with a 90 day warranty. It worked for one day. They gave me a second replacement phone. It has worked for a month. Last week the wifi went out on this second replacement phone so I back to the store I have go for yet a third replacement phone. Guess I'll have to keep replacing them until my contract ends in December 2014. The replacement phones have a 90 day warranty and so far the wifi doesn't last more than a month on the replacement 4s phones. Pitiful. I had my original phone for almost a year and NO problems whatsoever until the IOS 7.0 download.

It is annoying as hell. I am very disappointed with how apple didn't even bring up this issue and not owning up to it. And telling customers that this is a hardware problem....so why would you use this crappy wifi chip that is going to crash by this new software in the first place? plus, they are telling us it has nothing to do with the software? WTF. I'm definitely not going to buy another iphone.

Is there anyone out there who has begun a class action suit? or is planning one? I hear of agreement to arbitrate, which is fine, I think the nonsense speaks for itself. This arbitration might be limited to just those who upgraded, my understanding this issue effects others when their phones have been worked hard and heated up. 85. I'm a victim, and as a customer with apple for 5 years I should be able to trust that my iPhone should and will be able to be used without any problems. Apple is responsible no matter what they say, it is THEIR product that THEY'VE created so, they should be able to fix this solution and not blame or accuse us of not reading it and knowing it is at OUR RISK, I have been a customer for 5 years and this problem hasn't occurred till now so its obvious that I would believe that it is in good quality to use the phone without a problem. Therefore not thinking there would be a risk I updated my phone and now its nothing but a piece of junk. Apple better find a solution because I payed a high amount of money for this and I am unable to afford a new phone.

  109. How to? Reverse Tethering iPhone 4S using USB via Windows 7 PC

Since replacing my iPhone 4S with a new Samsung GALAXY S5 the SIM in the iPhone is no longer provisioned. So I do not have access to a cellular network service provider.

Also, similar to others' experience, my WiFi and Bluetooth on my iPhone 4S no longer function since I last upgraded my IOS to 7.1.2 (11D257) w/ Modem Firmware 5.2.00

For the fun of it, and learning, I've been looking for a workaround? I want my iPhone 4S to access the Internet through my PC by USB cable. My PC has access to my home router (WiFi).

How is this done? What steps are required to achieve this?

A quick search of the Internet with my web browser found one Apple support community that said that this type of functionality is not available. It was a single post from an individual---not necessarily from an Apple technician---that I could tell anyway?

  111. Regrettably 2 hrs.after successfully getting it running again my iPhone 4S WiFi & Bluetooth have reverted back to the greyed out status---no longer working. It was good while it lasted. Was able to export to e-mail three years of fuel consumption data from my AccuelFuel App. Otherwise it would have remained in the iPhone because the cellular service had been decommissioned and reverse tethering to access the Internet wasn't an option that this device supported. After years of being a loyal Apple iPhone customer (various devices) I am now using a Samsung GALAXY S5. Glad I switched. If only Apple had reached out to offer me a fair helping hand up.

  126. Hi everyone,
Here I go, another story of an EX- Apple client after being really disappointed by their service..
    I had the same issue.
I bought my iPhone in Belgium in a provider store (Mobistar) in November 2011.
Really happy with it, great device, UNTIL I downloaded iOS 7 in October 2013. (I didn't want to but practically was FORCED by my own phone). After this, my wifi started turning on and off, acting really weird. After 2 days, the button just greyed out, couldn't do anything with it.
As we don't have an official Apple store with genius bar in Belgium, I went to a Switch store. I told the guy about my problem, he immediately knew what was going on, didn't even care to look at my phone nor did he make any record of it in his computer but just said I should go to the store where I bought it (Mobistar) and I would get a new one as it was still in warranty (warranty in Belgium is 2 years). I was leaving on holiday for 3 weeks the next day so was kinda bummed out I wouldn't be able to take my phone with me (really needed it to check my e-mails etc). But, I had no other option so decided to go and hand in my phone the next day. When I came home that night, my wifi magically turned on again and I was so happy it worked again and decided to just take my phone with me on holiday the next day. Little did I know, it was just a temporary 'fix', just the chip that decided to work again for 2 days. After one day in Portugal, the wifi went down again and NEVER came back up. When I came home 3 weeks later, my phone was out of warranty for 1 day. Dear lord I could've cried like a baby.

I tried contacting an Apple employee through the internet and all they did was tell me I should visit a Genius bar.
In February, I went on holiday to New York so made an appointment at the Genius bar in the Apple store on Fifth Ave.
The girl there was friendly, but same story: she knew immediately what the problem was, told me it's a common problem with the 4s but denied that it happened after downloading iOS7, had nothing to do with it she said. Completely ridiculous ofcourse. Then, she told me that if the employee at the Switch store had made a record of my complaint, I could have proven that it was already broken within my warranty and she could have had it fixed for free. The only thing she could do for me now was give me a "new" (it's refurbished, so basically she was lying) phone for 200$. Ok, so after paying 650€ (840$) for my iPhone, I had to pay another 200$, leaving me with an (at that time already) old phone for which I would have payed a total of 1040$. She told me that it would be better to buy an iPhone 5 immediately because after a year a 4S would be useless as well with updates that won't work on it anymore. Wow, thanks for not helping me at all.

I kept using my phone (which was getting slower and slower and with draining battery life) for half a year more, forcing me to spend endless amounts on cellular data. Thanks Apple!! Love your customer service!

I even tried the blowdry and freezer trick (together with all the other options) but it didn't even work for me. Honestly, while blowdrying my phone I couldn't help but laugh that a company that makes billions each year forces just forces customers to blowdry and freeze phones for wchich they pay a month's rent.

Know, I think it's crazy I ever paid that amount for a device from a company with SUCH BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
But lesson learned, I just bought the Samsung S4 Mini for a reasonable price and can't wait to start using it.

My advice: iPhone is not worth its price, and even if it was, the customer service is so disappointing that it's still not worth it.

  128. I skipped iOS 7 with my 4S, but did decide to upgrade to 8.0, figuring some improvements were made. WiFi is now completely unusable. I'm now blazing through data usage. I used to be a fan-girl from way back. With my 4.5 year old MacBook Pro needing replacement in the next year or so, I think it's time to give it up. Apple is not what it used to be. Steve Jobs is turning in his grave. This was not his vision.

  129. Completely the same thing happend to me 2 days ago with 8.0.2 !!! I tried everything that is written here:

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    1.Restart your iOS device.
2.Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
3.Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
4.Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.

    moreover I tried:
    1. install 8.0.2 once again as a back up phone
    2. install 8.0.2 once again as a completely new phone.

    nothing helped.

What helped was, that I switched off the phone while charging, turned it on but not logging into sim card. And I had wifi there, wifi button was not gray. But it was very slow, and took so long to find any wifi so I stopped it. But this says, I think, that wifi is working, so its not a hardware thing.

I am speaking to apple today and lets see what happens. Probably two scenarios are possible:

    1. I need to wait for a new ios release – could take like how long, any idea? And hope, that it helps
    2. As it is already 2.5 years that I bought it, its not any guarantee there so I need to pay for a new one.. CRAZY

I think its really crazy. I paid like 500 eur for the phone, downloaded their system, it crashed my phone and there is no help???

  134. I'm from HK and I got the same issue with my iphon4s after upgrading to ios7.0.4 last year, The reason I wanted to upgrade is because the whatsapp was always hung. After upgrading to ios7, the whatsapp resumed to normal but then I found that the wifi greyed out and is unable to use anymore. I took my iphone to genius bar. They checked and then told me that it is the problem of the wifi chips, but as it is out of warranty, they want to charge me HKD$1xxx for fixing it. I felt totally disappointed as the problem is obviously caused by the ios7. If the ios7 is actually not compatible with the wifi chip of iphone4s, why they still claimed that iphone4s is possible to upgrade to ios7, did they check it before the release indeed?

After that, I brought my iphone to the local repair store and replaced the wifi chips. The wifi worked for about 1 month then it greyed out again. But just a week ago, I don't know why the wifi came back again when the iphone charged up from no battery. And the wifi works normal till now. It is quite weird for me. I hope it never fails again.

  135. Well guys, we got screwed.
When a company makes cheap crap ass products, just don't buy from them anymore. It is a pressure method, and yes it can be employed. Then the company can either change their quality norms or they can go out of business. Apple doesn't give a shhh about our complaints, the money is already in they pockets. We have short memory and in two or three marketing skits half of the angry people will have the next gen. Iphone.

  148. WI-Fi problem will get solved for a limited time (minutes) once the phone gets heated up, and will be back when it cools to normal room temperature. Tried Reset setting, then updated IOS 9.3.2 to 10.1.1, but the issue still persist.

At Room temperature - No Wi-Fi.
At Temperature A- Wifi icon active.
    At Temperature B- phone hangs.
    At Temperature C- Wifi Works.
    then
Slow Cooling at Temperature B- phone hangs
Slow Cooling at temperature A- Wifi icon become inactive
At Normal Room Temperature- No Wi-fi.

Wi-fi problem should be a Hardware issue. Nothing to do with software upgrade.
